The Sonoma Diet
There are no
special diet foods involved in the
Sonoma Diet. This diet was
inspired by the Mediterranean culture of eating. You can enjoy
eating and food because the premise behind this diet is not to
deprive your body of what it needs. You actually add foods instead
of taking them away. The foods you do eat help to give you more
vitality and help to improve your overall health. Generous portions
make sure you are full and don't feel hungry between your meals.
The reason that people have been so successful on this
diet is that
they incorporate ten powerful foods into your diet. These foods form
the backbone of the plan. They are:
* Whole grains
* Tomatoes
* Strawberries
* Spinach
* Almonds
* Bell peppers
* Grapes
* Olive oil
* Blueberries
* Broccoli
Dr. Connie Gutterson, the founder of this diet, is an expert on the
main diets of Latin America, the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe.
The main choices of foods come from these areas, especially the
Sonoma area of the Mediterranean. For anyone who likes the ten main
foods, the diet would be an easy one to follow, but it would be
difficult for those who do not like all these foods. While it is
understood that you should have an exercise plan when on this diet,
there are no strict guidelines to follow. In fact, if you follow the
diet, you will lose weight even without exercising.
There are three stages, called Waves, in this
diet program. Wave 1
is the strictest stage and as dieters progress through the stages,
they add more and more foods to the diet. The meal portions are
strictly controlled and these are smaller than what you would see in
the Western diets. The diet is structured in the foods you can eat
and the amounts of each one and the steps of when you eat are
dictated by the diet. However, you don't have to count calories and
if you like the main foods, you can eat as much as you want.
